The EMBL Szilárd Library is a scientific library with extensive on-line resources and databases maintains a rich collection in the field of Life Sciences and serves the scientific community and the administrative staff of EMBL. It serves all staff working across all EMBL sites, especially the 900 scientists. The Library is responsible for the delivery of EMBL’s Open Access policy and is heavily involved in developments in Open Science across EMBL.

We are looking for a library assistant to support the EMBL Szilard Library team in providing excellent services to the scientific community and the administrative staff of EMBL. 

Your role

The main areas of accountability will be:
  • Organisation, development, cataloging and classification of library resources.
  • Assisting users and dealing with inquiries.
  • Manage and organise the library area; furniture and equipment.
  • Promote the library collection and services; develop and deliver library induction sessions and training.
  • Liaise with admin and scientific staff, external bodies and suppliers.
  • Anticipate community needs and trends to improve library services.
  • Publication management and metadata curation (CRIS).
  • Assist in other library related tasks as appointed.

You have

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) and min. two years of experience in libraries or related environment.
  • Experience in cataloging is necessary.
  • Experience and pleasure in providing support for users.
  • Working knowledge of English is necessary.
  • Experience in publication management and metadata curation in Converis Personal skills.
  • Proactive, flexible and self-motivated.
  • Team worker with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, including the ability to work to deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances.

You might also have

  • Experience with Inmagic and Koha will be considered an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of German will be considered an advantage.
